A tragic crash in Jefferson County, Alabama, has resulted in the death of 29-year-old Donnene Walker of Houston, Texas, following a multi-vehicle collision late Tuesday night, November 25.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the incident occurred on Interstate 65 near the 278-mile marker and involved four vehicles.
Investigators report that Walker had been driving a Ford Edge when it became disabled after an earlier crash. She exited the vehicle and was standing nearby when a Nissan Rogue struck the stationary Ford Edge. The impact caused the Edge to move forward and hit Walker, resulting in critical injuries.
Prior to hitting the Ford Edge, the Nissan Rogue also collided with a Chevrolet Silverado. Both the Rogue’s driver and the Silverado’s driver were injured and transported to UAB Hospital for treatment.
A fourth vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old, later struck debris scattered across the roadway. No injuries were reported from that vehicle.
Walker was taken to UAB Hospital, where she later passed away. No additional fatalities have been reported.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the sequence of events, including potential contributing factors such as speed, road conditions, and visibility. The interstate was partially closed as crews cleared debris and documented evidence.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information or witness accounts to contact ALEA as the investigation remains active.
