Davenport authorities have opened an investigation after an incident outside a local lounge early Friday morning resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left another person injured. The situation unfolded in the parking area of Chill Vibez Lounge on Myrtle Street shortly before 2 a.m., according to police.
Officers were dispatched around 1:45 a.m. following reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, police located a man with injuries consistent with a shooting. First responders provided medical aid before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away.
A short time later, police were notified that a second man, identified as Damien Howard, had arrived at a hospital by private vehicle. Medical staff were unable to save him, and he was pronounced deceased. Authorities later confirmed the identities of the two individuals as Dane Howard and Damien Howard.
A third man also sustained injuries during the incident but is expected to recover. Officials described his condition as non-life-threatening, and he was transported to a hospital for further evaluation.
Early findings suggest the incident stemmed from a physical altercation that escalated. Detectives are working to determine who was involved, what led to the dispute, and how the confrontation unfolded. Investigators spent several hours processing the scene, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing people who were in the area at the time.
The Davenport Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 563-326-6125. Anonymous tips may be submitted through QC Crime Stoppers. Authorities say community cooperation will play an important role in helping them identify those responsible.
The name of the injured individual will be released once family notifications are complete. Meanwhile, the community continues to process the news and offer support to the families of Dane and Damien Howard.
