Cape Coral officials are investigating a boating incident near the Cape Coral Yacht Club that resulted in multiple people being pulled from the water on Saturday, according to the Cape Coral Fire Department.
Emergency crews from Cape Coral Fire and the Iona-McGregor Fire District responded after receiving reports of individuals in distress. Officials confirmed that three people were rescued and received medical attention. Two additional individuals were recovered from the water but did not survive despite extensive efforts by first responders.
Witnesses reported a strong emergency presence in the area as fire crews, marine units, and rescue personnel worked to assist those involved. Responders provided care aboard rescue boats before transporting the individuals to waiting medical teams. Authorities said all available life-saving measures were attempted.
The identities of the individuals involved have not yet been released, and details regarding the cause of the incident remain under investigation. Marine patrol units continued to survey the area throughout the afternoon as investigators worked to determine what led to the emergency.
